Identifying Community Values

Development of the Parks Master Plan was done by working with the community to identify our shared values. These values provide a basis for the assessment and recommendations for future parks and recreation planning. The identified values are listed below.

Accessibility

Ensuring physical accessibility of parks and recreation facilities by all Boerne residents. This includes accessibility by multiple forms of transportation including walking, bicycling and accessibility by different ages and abilities.

Environmental Protection

Assuring the protection of natural resources such as natural waterways and habitat. Additionally, preservation of characteristic Hill Country views were of importance to residents.

Sustainability

Everything that we need for our survival and wellbeing depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. To pursue sustainability is to create and maintain the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony to support present and future generations.

Connections

Providing physical connections between parks, neighborhoods, and economic centers ensures the parks system efficiently supports activities of residents.

Coordination

Coordination among community partners is critical for ensuring community resources are optimally utilized.
